WOW! Demie was a dynamo in the library today. She did everything from reading poetry and stories to classes, checking books out and in, setting up a book display, ordering bookmarks, and delivering books to teachers to eating lunch in the teacher's lounge and teaching kindergarten students how to select books from the shelves using place markers! Thanks Demie, for all of the help!

Third, fourth, and fifth graders were joined by students from Forest Trail to hear author Patrick Carman talk about how he transformed from a regular kid just like them into a best-selling author who has published more than 35 books. He encouraged them to tell their stories every day, and assured them that talking and drawing were just the first step to writing. Lots of students can be seen reading the sci-fi adventure books from the Voyagers series, or the humorous Fizzopolis story now. We were inspired to read, write, and laugh! We really appreciate our local bookstore, Book People, for bringing us this great author! Thirty nine fifth graders were "well read and well fed" as they met in the library for the annual Bluebonnet Luncheon. Each of the students had read at least 15 or the 20 current Bluebonnet books. After pizza and ice cream sundaes, they competed in a Bluebonnet trivia contest.
THANK YOU to our Library Puppet Show Committee from all of the students at Valley View for another great puppet show! Barb Paier and Jodie Bade played "starring roles", along with Paula Ables, Susannah Berman, Dana Bocock, Kathy and Peter Brumme, Leslie Edwards, Paige Hansen, Cheree Jetton, Sofia Kiske, Kari Leighton, Julie and Peter Shantz, Erica Vogel, and Matt Westfield. Ten of our student volunteers braved a stormy night to go the the WHS Performing Arts Center where Book People Bookstore brought author Brian Selznick to talk about his new book The Marvels. His book The Invention of Hugo Cabret has been a Valley View favorite, so it was fun to see slides of how the movie set so closely matched the illustrations from the book. We all went home that night anxious to read the new book and inspired by Brian Selznick's art and writing!
Thanks to all of Valley View for making the book fair so much fun for all of our book-loving Cardinals and their families! Once again Donuts for Dads got us off to a great start. Even Clifford, the big red dog, stopped by to join the fun. Special thanks to all the volunteers who pulled it all together, led by Elizabeth Ruff, Shelby Hanson, Pilar Richards, and Jodi Bade. First and second grade students "dresssed fancy" and walked over to Forest Trail Elementary to meet Robin Preiss Glasser, illustrator of the popular Fancy Nancy book series. The first Fancy Nancy book was published 10 years ago, and with more than 50 titles in the series, the new mystery Nancy Clancy books will continue the fun! THANK YOU to Book People bookstore for bringing Robin Preiss Glasser to meet us, and thank you to our friends at Forest Trail for hosting! Parent volunteers join us to help with all classes and to shelve books. Fifth grade student volunteers help out mornings before school with book check out and reading to younger students.
